In the former Zakos coffee shop, a Frenaros fixture from 1986 until just a few years ago, chef Konstantinos Zakos has opened Apo Genia se Genia which literally translated into From Generation to Generation. This is a modern tavern rooted in family traditions and flavors of home.
Inspired by his grandmother’s cooking, the menu brings together beloved Cypriot and Greek dishes, from souvlaki, traditional sandwiches, snails, sweets, afelia (a traditional Cypriot marinated pork dish), and zucchini with eggs to classic grilled meats and comforting, grandma-style stews. There is also a more refined side to the kitchen, with dishes such as rooster braised in wine with pasta and graviera cheese, lemon-scented rabbit, and kolokasi (taro).
For those looking to discover traditional island cooking in a thoughtful, contemporary setting, Apo Genia se Genia is a warm and worthwhile addition to the Famagusta district’s dining scene.
