Since the year 2000, the Ayios Epifanios Tavern has put the village of the same name—located in the Nicosia district—on the map for fish dining. Many Nicosia residents simply say: "We’re going to Michalis’ for fish" (Michalis being the owner’s name). Although meat dishes are also available (both fish and meat are part of the meze and à la carte menu), yet 90% of the clientele visits the village specifically for the fresh fish. The fish meze features catch-of-the-day—ranging from picarel, bogue, hake, common pandora, and red mullet, to various types of sea bream and wrasse—as well as fresh cuttlefish, squid, shrimp, and sea bass. The meal begins with salad and toasted bread, and there is also a salad bar offering 10 different appetizers. To finish off, boureki (pastries) and fruit are typically served.
